Sustainability & Materials
We believe responsibility is a practice, not a label. At HÜNA that means making fewer pieces, choosing better materials where we can, and being honest when a fabric isn’t perfectly “sustainable.”
Our approach
-
Small batches, less waste. We produce limited runs—often one or two per size—to avoid overproduction.
-
Built to last. Clean construction, strong seams, and timeless shapes so you wear each piece longer.
-
Transparency over perfection. We always list the exact fabric composition, and whenever possible we explain why we chose it.
-
Continuous improvement. When a lower-impact option meets our standards, we’ll move to it.
Materials we use (and why)
Natural fibres
-
Linen (flax): breathable, strong, softens over time. Care: cold gentle wash, line dry, steam.
-
Cotton (including denim): durable and versatile. We avoid heavy distressing/washdowns.
Regenerated & plant-based cellulosics
-
Viscose / Rayon / Lyocell (TENCEL™): drape and softness for fluid silhouettes. We prioritise reputable suppliers when possible.
Synthetics & blends
-
Polyester / Recycled Polyester, Nylon, Elastane: used for structure, durability, colour-fastness, and fit recovery (e.g., linings, taffeta, technical finishes, stretch blends).
-
Why we use them: some designs need crisp volume, wrinkle resistance, or stretch that natural fibres alone can’t provide.
-
How we mitigate: choose better mills where possible, keep percentages purposeful, and design for long wear to offset impact.
-
Linings & trims
-
Acetate / Viscose linings: comfort and breathability inside structured garments.
-
Minimal hardware & plastic: we keep trims simple and durable; no unnecessary extras.
You’ll always find exact composition and weight on product pages, and care notes sewn inside each garment.
How we make
-
Pattern & cutting: tight markers to reduce off-cuts; reuse off-cuts for sampling/tests where possible.
-
Quality control: every piece is checked one-by-one before shipping.
-
Packaging: recyclable mailers, minimal plastic, and lean inserts—please reuse or recycle.
Care to reduce impact
Most impact happens during wear and care. Small habits help all fibres—natural or synthetic—last longer.
-
Wash less; air between wears.
-
Cold, gentle cycles with mild detergent; wash inside-out.
-
Line dry in shade; avoid high heat.
-
Steam to refresh; repair small issues early.
(See our Fabric & Care page for detailed linen/denim guidance.)
What we won’t claim
-
We don’t call a garment “sustainable” if the overall impact is mixed.
-
Certifications vary by mill and batch; when we have proof, we’ll share it.
-
Trend-driven churn isn’t our path—we design for repeat wear.
Our roadmap
-
Increase use of recycled or lower-impact options that meet our quality bar.
-
Expand fabric traceability with suppliers.
-
Build simple repair & care guides to extend garment life.
